It does not bother Bea Alonzo that she was only the second choice for the role in the upcoming soap opera Magkaribal, where she stars opposite Gretchen Barretto and Derek Ramsay. Bea did not hesitate to accept it after Claudine Barretto, who was first offered the role, transferred networks. “For me kahit na 50th choice ka, if it was offered to you, okay ‘yun sa akin,” explained Bea. “It’s not an issue for me kung second choice ganyan, no, not at all.”
However, she would rather stay out of the controversies that involve Gretchen and Claudine, who are both her friends. “I’m not in the position to talk and to judge, so I would rather stay silent,” she reasoned.
Aside from the teleserye, Bea will also soon start shooting for the family movie, Sa ‘Yo Lamang, which also stars Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon, Erich Gonzales, and Enchong Dee. She said that she is already bracing herself because the two projects are expected to overlap production schedules.
Bea said that she is not new to overlapping schedules, which she used to do when she was younger. The bigger challenge for her is to switch from one character to another. She recalled that when she did a movie with John Lloyd Cruz, her managers at Star Magic decided for her to just focus on the movie which led to a more effective portrayal. “Mas na-enjoy ko siya (her character), mas na-own ko ‘to,” Bea shared. Having seen the difference, Bea requested not have any other project when she did her first solo movie, And I Love You So (2009), which earned her impressive reviews. “So talagang iba ‘yung effort na naibibigay mo kasi alam nila na nanggagaling (mismo sa characters ‘yung emotions),” she explained.
With Sa ‘Yo Lamang and Magkaribal, Bea may be back to shuttling between two projects but the actress is just grateful for the work. “Kesa sa magreklamo ka nang magreklamo dyan ‘yun naman ang positive side of it, you have a lot of work.”
Bea resolved to do her best and perform better this time. “Maybe what I’ll do is to play music sa car pa lang that would remind me of the character where I left it. ‘Yung mga ganon, ‘yung mga simple things na hindi naman magagawan ng paraan ng director para sa ‘yo na ikaw na ang gagawa para sa sarili mo.”

Even though Angel Locsin has decided to be just friends with ex-boyfriend Luis Manzano, he’s still apparently very special to her with the way she is all smiles whenever she talks about him. Luis didn’t make it to her birthday bash cum launch of her resto-bar Fuel-Up last Friday, April 23, but Angel revealed that the actor-host surprised her with a very expensive gift the night before. “Napag-usapan namin [kung makakapunta ba siya] pero ayoko naman mag-force ng tao. Anong gift niya sa akin? Nakakahiya e. Kaya ayoko rin magkwento kasi mas effort yung gift niya kaysa sa gift ko kaya ayoko sabihin.”
But after much prodding, Angel finally shared that she gave him the latest mini hamburger speakers for his iPod and a cellphone for his birthday last April 21. “Kasi lagi niyang sinasabi sa akin noon na gusto niya ng ganon so binili ko tapos binigay ko sa kanya,” Angel said. “Sobrang happy naman siya dun sa binigay ko. Ganon naman yun e. Madali naman yun mapasaya, sobrang simple lang ng gusto niya. Actually masarap siyang bigyan ng regalo kasi kapag nakita niya, kahit hindi niya masyado gusto, matutuwa pa rin siya,” she added with a laugh.
While the 25-year-old actress is not dating anyone at the moment, she keeps herself busy by going out with friends during her spare time. She admitted though that Luis still visits her at home and they sometimes go out with friends but never alone on a romantic date. “Oo, in fairness, improving naman. Siyempre dati sobrang awkward kapag nag-uusap kami. Tapos ngayon napagtatawanan na namin yung mga bagay-bagay. Tulad ng lagi kong sinasabi, hindi naman magbabago e. He will always be special naman sa akin. I think ganon din naman ako sa kanya. Pero I know naman na kailangan din namin ng space sa isa’t isa.”
No one knows for sure whether they’ll get back together, but Angel is glad that Luis understands what she wants for herself right now. “Hindi namin madalas pag-usapan kasi ginagalang naman niya yung desisyon ko. Wala namang pressure. Yun nga, kasi hindi naman talaga ganon kadali ‘di ba? Basta ayos lang kami. Hindi ko alam kung anong status namin, pero hindi naman kami dating. Hindi naman ako nakikipag-date sa iba. And I think ganon din naman siya,” she beamed.
